Summer self care tips every sorority girl should follow

I like to use summer as my physical and mental reset from school. Living in the sorority is seriously the greatest, but it can definitely take a toll on you physically and mentally. I am someone who loves having a routine and a schedule to follow. I find it really hard to maintain both of those things while at school. There is always something exciting going on at school that you don’t want to miss! My workout schedule and my healthy eating habits tend to fall off my radar while at school, so every summer I like to reset my mind and body with these super easy self care tips!

Make a schedule to follow during the week:

I find it very hard to maintain a good schedule while living in the sorority house. There is always something exciting going on and I feel like I end up going to bed at a different time every night. So when summer rolls around I get super excited to finally have a weekly schedule I can stick to. I try to go to bed around the same time every night during the weekdays and save any late night hang outs for the weekend.

Schedule at LEAST 2 friend dates a week:

I think it is so important for your mental health to surround yourself with positive people. It can be harder in the summer to find the time to see your sorority sisters since you don't live right down the hall from each other any more. I try to schedule at least two get-togethers with my sorority sisters each week. I find that during the week I usually do dinner with friends and then on the weekends I plan late night hang outs with them.

**I love going on coffee dates with friends!!!**

Workout/move your body everyday:

I totally get that it can be hard to find the time to workout everyday but I think even just going for a 10 minute walk or doing yoga in the morning can be so beneficial. Working out makes me so much happier and productive! I try to have a good workout at least 3 days a week and just do a little yoga or go on walks with my dog the other days. I also like to change up my workouts. For a while I was really into boxing classes and hot yoga but now I do a lot of cycling and pilates. I think it is good to change up your workouts so you don't get bored of them.

**Or get yourself a dog that wants to do yoga with you!!**

Have a designated self care beauty day:

Most Sundays I like to take about an hour out of my night to do beauty care that helps to make me feel good about myself. I always give myself a manicure and usually a pedicure. Putting new nail polish on my toes always makes me feel good. I also love baths but don't always have time for them during the weekdays and so taking a 20 minute epsom salt bath on Sundays is the BEST. While I take my bath I’ll throw on a facemask and turn on an episode of whatever show I’m watching and I have myself the perfect spa night!

Journal:

Journaling your emotions are so healthy! It can feel kinda funny the first time you journal but just think of it as talking to yourself. I love waking up and journaling first thing in the morning when I have time. I just write anything that's bothering me, anything that's making me happy or just anything I want to get off my chest. I write life updates in my journal and it is fun to look back and see where I was at during different points in my life. In addition to journaling, I like to try to end my day by writing a low point, a high point and something I’m thankful for for that day. This helps me find the good in everyday life, even when sometimes it feels like there might not have been many high points that day. It can be hard to find the time during the school year to journal, so it is nice to check in with myself over the summer and pick up journaling again.

Eat healthy:

It can be difficult while living in the sorority house to eat healthy since you pretty much just eat what your chef makes you. So, in the summer, I like to go on a “health cleanse” to reset my body and mind. When I eat healthier and eat less sugar I notice that my mood is significantly better and my energy level is a lot higher. I tend to eat the same few things for breakfast like oatmeal or avocado toast, and then I usually meal prep my lunches for the week since I work full time. Meal prepping my lunches has made a drastic impact on my healthy eating. I make my lunches for the week every Sunday and so I’m not tempted to order an unhealthy lunch while at work or to throw together something unhealthy at the last minute in the morning. However, it is so important to not restrict yourself from food. I think everything in moderation is key!

I hope these self care tips were helpful and I would love to hear what self care tips you guys have for me! I am always looking for new ways to live a happy and healthy life!

Until next time sisters,

XOXO
